CONNECTION
I have been doing a lot of thinking lately about the word connection. In my work as a mental health therapist I have to do what is called a comprehensive evaluation. It is pretty much a big document about the client’s history and current life situation. One of the questions that is asked is, “are you involved in the community?” At least 95% of the people I ask say no. In our world of global connectedness, we are less and less connected. Now I know that, that sounds backwards but hear me out. Connection with other humans is important to our mental health and our well-being. The problem is there are less places for people to plug in, in the community. I work with clients age 9 years old to 84 years old. This lack of connection is across that entire age span. Finding ways to connect can be challenging.
Do not fear life is in part about making new connections. Making new connections and putting yourself out there is scary. Letting that fear take over is what stops us from making new connections.
We have to overcome that fear to live the life we want.
We have to overcome that fear to make new connections.
We have to overcome that fear to grow.
We have to overcome that fear to find joy.
Life is not easy but it is worth doing and it is worth putting yourself out there to make those connections and find joy in them.
